How to Unblock School Wifi Restrictions using VPN apps

Want to bypass school Wi-fi restrictions and access blocked applications/websites on your iPhone? You’ve come to the right place.

I used to be a student and I totally understand your need. Having a Wi-fi connection but only allowed to access a few websites, well, that’s not fun at all. That’s why I decided to write this tutorial to help you out.

In this article, I’m going to show you how to unblock apps on school Wi-fi so you can browse freely without begging the IT department in the school. :haha:

Use your head

Well, convincing the IT department to unblock your favorite websites in the network is one way, but the success rate is almost 0%. Luckily, we have easier solutions to deal with this problem. At the present time, the most reliable and easiest way to bypass school Wi-Fi is to use a VPN service.

There are some websites that allow you to bypass censorship filters and access blocked websites using proxy servers. But they are not really safe as they can change HTML & JavaScrip code before delivering the target website to you. Not to mention you can only use these web proxy services to access websites through your web browser. Therefore, I recommend you to stay away from them.

How a VPN works

In a nutshell, a VPN allows you to connect to the internet via an intermediate server (running by a VPN provider). This server will encrypt all data traveling from your device and by that way you can evade censorship by the school.

There are two ways to use a VPN on your iPhone & iPad: use a VPN app (free & paid) or register with a VPN provider and configure it in the VPN settings yourself. I prefer to use a VPN app as it’s easier to get it working and some of the VPN apps on the App Store also offer free subscriptions.

Below are three best VPN apps for your iPhone & iPad. Some of them are cross-platform apps, which mean you can also use them on your computers or Android phones.

Best VPN Apps to Unblock School Wi-Fi Restrictions

1. Betternet

Betternet is one of the best free VPN Services. What I love about this app is that it doesn’t have any usage limits and users aren’t required to register any personal information.

Using its iOS app is dead simple. Once you’ve installed Betternet on your device, just launch it, select the nearest location and tap Connect. Now you can let it run in the background and access blocked apps and websites.

Betternet also has an app for Android, dedicated programs for Windows, Mac. And if you just want to use them for browsing websites, you can install its handy extension for Chrome or Firefox (add-on).

Connecting to the Internet via a VPN server will affect the speed. In this case, as I tested, Betternet generally reduced my speed by somewhere between 1/4th and 4/5ths. But still, it’s not bad for a free VPN.

2. Opera Free VPN

After integrating the VPN technology in the desktop browser, Opera finally bring us the free VPN app for iOS named Opera Free VPN. It offers VPN services with completely free unlimited access, but unlike Betternet, it allows you to select several locations without the need to upgrade to premium.

Opera VPN also has a built-in ad blocker that can help you block ads in Safari, Chrome, and other games & apps. You can install both Opera VPN and Betternet and test to see which one gives you better Internet speed from your location.

3. Ultra Cloud VPN by ArkVPN

Just like OperaVPN and Betternet, this app gives you free access to its VPN servers with unlimited bandwidth and no registration required. However, its free plan is limited by hours of usage given every day. But I think the free plan is enough for most regular users and you can also increase it by collecting their daily bonus.

If you are considering a paid and reliable VPN service, then Ultra Cloud VPN would be your best bet. Their price is very competitive in the VPN market. You can order their subscription annually for just $9.99, as low as $0.8/month.

I’ve shown you the best VPN apps to unblock apps and websites on your school Wi-Fi network. Each of them has their own pros and cons. And hopefully, this article can help you find out the VPN app that suits your need.

What is your favorite app? Or maybe you’re using another VPN app. Do let me know by leaving a comment below.

What about on your settings on your school iPad

I’ve got a simpler solution, at least for ocps servers. Just get yourself psiphon 3, open the folder it’s contained in by pressing the little arrow next to the download, ctrl+c the download inside the folder, then paste within it and open the copy. As simple as that.
