Tweaked Apps
July 15, 2017

Are you looking for a way to record your iPhone’s screen? If yes, then you’ve come to the right place. Don’t go anywhere else because I will be showing you all the best iPhone screen recorder apps in this article. Believe me, I understand that finding a good application for this purpose is not easy and I want to help you!

As an enthusiast of iOS games, I love to share my gameplay on Youtube, or with my friends. I remember the first time I tried to find an app to record my iPhone’s screen, I had to dig into lots of articles on the Internet and watch lots of videos on Youtube to find a good one. Eventually, I found! But I realized I’d wasted too much time for it.

That’s because many tutorials out there are outdated or not complete. Some apps can be installed but no longer are available to use. Some even cannot be downloaded due to certificate revocation. You might have experienced the same thing before. That’s why I want to create this post and keep it up-to-date.

I know that feel bro

In this post, I will cover all the free toolkits for iOS devices that I have tested and are still working well. They include apps from third-party sources (can be installed without jailbreak), jailbreak tweaks, and apps for computers. Now, let’s get started!

1AirShouNo jailbreak, No computer
2EveryCordNo jailbreak, No computer
3VidyoNo jailbreak, Using a computer running macOS, Windows, or Linux to install.
4BB RecNo jailbreak, No computer
5QuickTime PlayerApp on Mac
6LonelyScreenApp for Mac & Windows computers
7Display RecorderJailbreak tweak

1. AirShou

Free iPhone screen recorder: AirShou

How to install AirShou

Previously, you can easily install AirShou by accessing a web URL using the Safari browser. But now things have changed. Downloading AirShou from these sources is not stable as Apple will soon detect and revoke apps’ certification, making it impossible to install or use these apps.

The best method to download and install AirShou at the present time is to use TutuApp, a new app market for both iOS & Android devices. You can read this article to know about TutuApp and how to use this app to get AirShou.

I will update other alternative methods to install AirShou if there is a new one available in this section of the post.

Once you’ve downloaded successfully the AirShou app, you will see its icon on the Home screen. But the app is still not available to use now. Just tap on it, you will see the pop-up telling you that AirShou has not been trusted on your device.

To make it a trusted app, follow the instructions below:

  1. Go to Settings > General > Profiles & Device Management
  2. On this page, you may find several enterprise apps
  3. Choose the profile corresponding to AirShou.
  4. Tap on the Trust button and one more time to confirm. Now the app is ready for use.

How to use AirShou

If you open the app for the first time, you may need to log in with Shou.TV – which is a gaming service. You can alternatively use your Facebook, Google or Twitter account to quickly log in.

Note: Since AirShou works by simulating an AirPlay Mirroring connection to itself, you first need to connect your device to a Wi-Fi network to get it working.

Using AirShou to record iPhone screen

The main page provides us with two options: Broadcast and Record, simply select Record. After you enter the title and select the orientation, tap on next step. Now swipe up from the bottom of the screen to access Control Center, tap on AirPlay and select your device from the AirPlay Mirroring list. AirShou will automatically start to record the display as soon as AirPlay is connected.

2. EveryCord

EveryCord (formerly named iRec) is an application from iNoJB team. Installing this one is pretty easy. If AirShou cannot be installed in the present time, then you can give it a shot. No jailbreak or computer needed.

On your iPhone or iPad, click on this link to go the official website and install it. If the app’s certificate gets revoked and cannot be installed, you’ll have to download the iPA and install via Cydia Impactor.

After you install EveryCord on your iOS device,  go to Settings > Device Management > Select the app > Trust. Unlike other apps, EveryCord doesn’t have a visible “Record” button. Instead, you have to name the recording first, then hit done to start.

3. Vidyo

Vidyo was available to download from the App Store with the price tag of $4.99. But then, not surprisingly, Apple has pulled off the app from the store because of the screen recording functionality.

Fortunately, you can now install this app by sideloading its iPA file. Here is the newest tutorial on how to install and use Vidyo. The process of installing the app requires using a computer running MacOS, Windows PC, or Linux. And the only drawback of this method is you will need to reinstall the app every 7 days because of the limit Apple puts on free developer accounts.

4. BB Rec

BB Rec is another screen recorder app for iOS that takes advantage of AirPlay mirroring, like AirShou and Vidyo. The reason I think BB Rec is worth mentioning in this article is that this app also allows you to broadcast your screen through a streaming server. The app interface is quite simple. You can start capturing as well as find your videos right from the main screen.

To install BB Rec, you can use two methods:

  1. Download the app from Tutu Helper, or from vShare. Using Tutu Helper is simpler as you don’t need to use your computer.
  2. Sideload the iPA file, like install Vidyo. Click [here] to download the IPA file of BB Rec and follow the post on how to sideload iPA files to install the app.

5. QuickTime Player

Requirements: iOS device running iOS 8 or later, Mac computer running OS X Yosemite or later, lightning cable.

In my opinion, using QuickTime is the best method to record iPhone’s screen. It’s very easy to use, no need to jailbreak your device. You don’t have to worry about third-party apps still working or not on your device like the aforementioned method.

Here is how to use QuickTime:

Step 1: Connect your iOS device to your Mac via the lightning cable

Step 2: Launch QuickTime Player, select File > New Movie Recording from the menu bar. (you can use keyboard shortcut Option-Command-N alternatively)

Step 3: A new window will appear. Click on the little arrow next to the circle button to reveal the drop down menu and then select your device from “Camera”.

Step 4: You can also choose the microphone and video quality. If you want to record the audio directly from your device, choose your device as the Microphone.

After setting up, click the Red button to begin. To stop, click the stop button in the QuickTime preview window. You can then save the resulting video as a .mov file on your Mac, or you can edit the video within QuickTime and convert it to another video format.

Tip: by hitting Cmd + T you’ll be able to directly trim your video before saving it, so you only keep the relevant part of the recording.

6. LonelyScreen

If you’re a Windows user, then this would be a good choice. LonelyScreen is a free application that can turn your Windows computer into an Apple TV for mirroring from your iPhone. The reasons I love it? Well, it’s free, the application’s interface is simple to use and the video quality is quite good.

There is a free version for Mac computers as well. If you’re using MacOS, you can use this app in case there is no cable available to connect with your iOS device. Here are the download links to two versions:

  1. Windows
  2. Mac

After installing the application, all you have to do is launch it and on your iOS device, open Control Center – turn on “Airplay” – and select LonelyScreen (The default name). Now you will see your device screen projected to the computer window. Just click the Red button to start and stop recording.

All your saved videos can be found in the app’s folder. To access the folder, just click on the little folder icon on the right of the Record button.

7. Display Recorder – a jailbreak tweak

The final screen recorder I want to show you is the jailbreak tweak named Display Recorder. I know it’s not a popular method as Apple always pushes out new updates and quickly unsign the previous iOS versions to avoid users jailbreaking their devices. But if you have a chance to jailbreak your iPhone, this is one of the must-try tweaks.

Display Recorder Cydia tweak

This one is one of the most well-known tweaks among iOS jailbreak users. Let’s take a look at its features:

  1. Capturing a video of your device screen while also showing taps
  2. Adjustable frame rate, rotation/orientation, video format, and quality settings
  3. Recording mic audio
  4. Activator integration for quick access
  5. Many more…

The tweak is very easy to use. Once you’ve installed it, navigate to Settings and tap on Display Recorder to start configuring. Here you can see all the features I mentioned above.

After configuring, exit Settings and now you can launch Display Recorder and start using it. All resulting videos will be saved within the app. You can choose the option to save it to the Camera Roll as well.

Display Recorder is available for download on Cydia with the price tag of $4.99. In case your device is running iOS 7 or iOS 8, and this tweak doesn’t work flawlessly, you can try other jailbreak tweaks like Shou and RecordMyScreen.

iOS 11 Screen Recording

Apple just released iOS 11 beta and one of the most exciting features is screen mirroring. If Apple keeps it in the official release, this would be the best news for iOS users. No need to install other apps on your iPhone, iPad. Now it’s a built-in function which can be found easily in the Control Center.

Now that you know how to record your iPhone screen. Note that if you have an iPad, you can try these methods on it as well. Remember to go back and check this article sometimes because I will update new applications or new updates that work better here.

If you know other applications that offer high video quality and have an affordable price, then let me and other users know about it by telling us your experience in the comment section below.

That was great. Thanks for that.
I have a question though. In opening Airplay Mirroring to use these apps (I have downloaded Airshou), Where else is it shown? Will it show up on my AppleTV devices automatically? I’m a bit concerned about privacy. Who else can see what I’m doing on my phone when I open Mirroring?
Sorry, I’m new to Airplay stuff.

Hi, Kurt. On your iOS device, swipe up from the bottom of your screen to open Control Center. In Control Center, tap AirPlay, here you can select where it is shown. As you’re using AirShou, just select AirShou option from that.

All of those are money or use a computer. Besides air shou. When I tried to do air shou it said that the person who created my phone couldn’t be trusted. So that means air shou won’t work for me . My device is a iPod touch 5

    Any ideas

Airshou is now not available to install. Do you have a computer? Without using a computer or jailbreak, it’s really painful.

I’m using AirShou but when I record, and I stop it, it doesn’t save the video :/

Thanks for the information! But I’m having issues with AirShou and EveryCord. AirShou Doesn’t give me the ‘Record’ option. All I can do is Broadcast. EveryCord keeps crashing, I tried reinstalling, restarting my device but all was of no use. I checked the official AirShou website : airshou.org/download/ . The method mentioned on that website isn’t working for me either, it keeps taking me back to the web page instead (although I see positive comments there) I’m on an iPad Mini 3 (WiFi), need help with this please!
