Zedge is one of the most well-known places to download ringtones, text tones, and wallpapers for both iOS and Android devices. Despite the site being so popular, downloading ringtones from Zedge to iPhone is not something straightforward. You cannot just tap on the download button, then go back to the Settings app and set it as the new ringtone.
As of now, there are three ways to get ringtones onto your iPhone.
- Buy and Download from iTunes Store.
- Use the GarageBand app to make custom ringtones.
- Use iTunes to sync content to your iPhone.
To download Zedge ringtones to iPhone, you need to use iTunes on your computer. In this post, I will show you how to do so.
Step 1: Install the Zedge Ringtones app.
There are two Zedge apps on the App Store: one is Zedge which you can use to download wallpapers and buy ringtones from iTunes, the other one is Zedge Ringtones – we’re going to install this app. It’s free.
Step 2: Download ringtones to the Zedge app
Open the Zedge app. On the main screen, you can find a lot of ringtones and text tones. To browse ringtones by categories or search for them, switch to the Search tab. When you find a ringtone that you like, simply tap the “Download” button beside the “Play/Pause” button.
After it’s downloaded, you will see the download button has been replaced by a Checkmark icon. Now you can find the ringtone you’ve downloaded in the Download tab in the bottom-right corner.
At this point, the ringtone has been saved in the app, but it’s not available to use in the ringtone setting. To make it appear in the Settings app, you need to use iTunes to copy the content, then sync it to your iPhone manually. The next step will show you how to do it.
Step 3: Put ringtones on your iPhone
Connect your iPhone to your computer using a USB cable, then if iTunes doesn’t launch automatically, open it.
In the iTunes application, your iPhone appears as an icon in the upper-left corner of the iTunes window. Click on the device icon .
Then look under the Settings section on the left side of the iTunes window, select “File Sharing”. Select the Zedge ringtones app from the list of your installed apps (only apps having the File Sharing feature show up here).
You will find a list of m4r files under “Ringtones documents“. They are the ringtone files you’ve saved previously using the app.
Next, you need to transfer them to your computer, click to select the ringtones you want to transfer, hold Command (Mac) / Ctrl (Windows) while clicking to select multiple files at once. When you’re done selecting, click the “Save…” button, then choose a destination folder to store your ringtone files on your computer.
Now transfer back ringtones from your computer to iTunes and sync them to the ringtone library on the iPhone. In the same iTunes screen, select “Tones” under “On My Device“. Drag the ringtone files on your computer and drop onto this iTunes window. Then click the “Sync” button. Wait for a few seconds until the syncing process finishes. Click “Done“.
Step 4: Test out and set ringtones
You’ve added successfully Zedge ringtones to your iPhone. Now all you need to do is go to Settings → Sounds & Haptics → Ringtone and select your ringtones. Under the “RINGTONES” section, on the top of the list, you will find all the sounds you’ve added manually using iTunes.
If you want to delete these sounds, you will need to
- Connect your device to your computer. Open iTunes, select your device.
- In the left sidebar of iTunes, click Tones under your device’s name.
- Right-click the tone that you want to delete, then click delete tone.
