You just got a new Mac and haven’t figured out where to access your hard drive? This post will teach you three ways to get to your hard drive (both internal and external HD) with ease.
I cannot find my hard drive icon. How can I get to it?
In Finder, you can find your hard drive by selecting Go > Computer (or press Command + Shift + C). There you should see all the hard drive available.
Show your hard drive on the sidebar in Finder
From the Finder’s sidebar, you should also find your hard drive in the Devices section. If it’s not visible, hover the cursor over “Devices” and click “show”.
If no devices appear, click “Finder” in the top menu bar, then select “Preferences”. In the Sidebar tab, under “Devices”, make sure you put a tick at your computer, “Hard Disks” and “External Disks”.
Now your hard drive icon should appear on the Finder’s sidebar, under “Devices”.
Show your hard drive on the desktop
Go to Finder > Preferences (or press Command + ,) in the menu bar and select the General tab. Now select “Hard disks” and “External disks” then close the window. Your hard drive icon should be showing up on your desktop.
