You just bought a second-hand iPhone from someone and want to check its charge cycles and the exact remaining capacity?

You have used your iPhone for a long time and now you want to check the battery health to know if it’s time to get the old battery replaced?

Either way, this article will help you! Today, I’m going to show you 3 methods to check accurately how well your iPhone’s battery can perform. Let’s get started!

— One thing you should notice before we start is that since iOS 10, Apple has disabled all the functions related to iOS devices’ battery data for developers. That means you now cannot find any apps that work properly for this purpose on the App Store. Any articles out there that require you to install an app from the App Store, they don’t work anymore.

1. Check the iPhone Battery Capacity in the Settings app

Do you know you can take advantage of a stock feature in the Settings app to check your iPhone battery capacity? Well, if you don’t then let me show you.

Step 1: Open the Settings app, go to Privacy > Diagnostics & Usage. Then select Automatically Send to allow your iOS device to send data. If you’ve already selected this option, then you can move on to step 2. If not, you’ll have to wait for 12 – 24 hours until Apple send the log files back.

Step 2: Go to Settings > Privacy > Diagnostic & Usage > Diagnostic & Usage Data.  there you’ll see all of the logs generated by iOS, usually for crashes.

Step 3: On this page, you MIGHT be able to see a log starting with “log aggregated…”. Open this file and search for a key named com.apple.snapshot.battery.maxCapacity. The integer value is the actual capacity of your iPhone’s battery.Check iPhone Battery Health in the Settings app

However, the log file doesn’t tell you the total number of charge cycles the battery has gone through. To be able to check both values, read on to the next part!
