Survival games are some of the most exciting and challenging types of games. In most survival games, skills and strategy come into play as the main factors for players to win their battles. Whether it’s a shooter, action-adventure, or battle royale, this type of game has remained to be a favorite game style among console, PC, and mobile gamers.
In fact, some of the successful video games today are survival-themed. Specifically, the battle royale game style has become the new sensation in the gaming sphere out of nowhere. Battle Royale combines the elements of survival, exploration, and scavenging. And we have them on this list. Without further ado, here are 5 of the best survival games for your iPhone:
#1 – Rules of Survival
Rules of Survival is a multiplayer battle royale game first released in November 2017. Up to 120 players are dropped in parachutes on the Ghillie Island map and 300 on the Fearless Fjord map to fight against each other in either solo, duo, squad, or fireteam mode. Throughout the match on the battleground, you can pick up scattered weapons, collect random supply, and drive monster vehicles. Last man or team standing wins.
Rules of Survival developer NetEase jumped onto the battle royale game after the smash hit success of games like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) and Fortnite. The developer was so inspired by PUBG, which many thought an attempt to emulate the record-breaking success of the game on mobile platforms, that its audio-visual work and other references were very similar to PUBG. This ended up in PUBG to pursue a legal action against NetEase and even convincing Apple to take the title down from the App Store. But apparently, Rules of Survival is still alive and kicking.
#2 – Last Day on Earth: Survival
Last Day on Earth: Survival is a doomsday-themed survival strategy game with a top-down perspective. It takes you to the future, in 2027, when flu broke out and wiped out the human race, turning them into zombies and hostile survivors ready to devour you. Find food to survive, gather up materials in forests, mines, and other special locations, build your shelter to protect you and craft fighting tools. Be sure to keep tabs of your life stats and to constantly feed yourself so you’re ready to face attackers anytime. Either you’ll defend yourself from zombies or attack their bases, win matches to earn rewards.
Although there are a lot of zombie titles out there, Last Day on Earth: Survival stood out from the pack because of its difficulty level, to the point that you don’t know when your fellow survivor is going to shoot you down at the back, without you seeing it. Some have complained about this particular “flaw”; some viewing it unfair. But it’s actually the aspect of the game that lives up more to the name survival, and it makes it much more exciting and unpredictable.

#3 – Fortnite Battle Royale
One of the most popular battle royale games that helped propelled this game style further, Fornite Battle Royale has shattered so many records on its first year. A total of 100 players, either solo or teams, drop down on an island with nothing to fight against each other. The last remaining player or team wins. Players collect weapons, shields, health packs, materials, and whatnots, which are all instrumental for their survival.
A storm begins to develop over time and covers areas outside of the safe zone, which are all randomly selected at regular intervals. The storm expands while the safe zones shrink until no one on the map is safe anymore. Added to the battle royale version is the construction element where players can break down most visible objects to gain resources that they can use to build protection. With the constant updates and fun seasonal events being pushed by the developer, Fortnite has continued to draw new players and sustain the old ones.
#4 – PUBG Mobile
The phenomenal battle royale game that started it all, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is one of the best-selling video games across platforms of all time, and it now holds the most played game on Steam with over 3 million players as of June 2018.
Like most battle royale games, up to 100 players parachute onto an island with nothing other than grit and skills. All players scavenge the area where they drop to find weapons and equipment for survival. Your goal here is to kill every single one you meet on the battlefield and also make sure that you don’t get killed yourself. Safe areas are marked on the map for players to take refuge in. However, these areas will decrease to nothing so players will be forced to encounter others. The player or team that survives last wins the battle.
#5 – ARK: Survival Evolved
Ark: Survival Evolved is a cross-platform survival game where players are marooned on an island. Whether you’re navigating on foot or by riding a dinosaur, your end goal is to outlast your opponents by taking them down. However, humans aren’t the only enemy. Hostile dinosaurs and other primal creatures live on the island, too, ready to devour you. You’re allowed to use firearms, weapons, and other improvised things and build a strong based to defend yourself from your opponents.
